Synthesizing Personality

Interaction Design Grad Project

2008—2009

In parallel with finishing my engineering degree, I attended the Pilot Year of the the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID). My grad project was an exploration into the relationship between human perception of personality and the behavior of robots, heavily inspired by the work of Reeves & Nass and Valentino Braitenberg.

I designed a series of robots that each explored a dimension of Eysenck’s P-E-N theory for human personality: A psychotic plant, a neurotic laptop, and a desk lamp that oscillated between extraversion and introversion. The objects were exhibited at the Danish Museum of Art and Design as part of Design Week 2009.
